Vrijdag 13 december. De verkoop van Gerard Koopman is na twee dagen van zaalveilingen en vier dagen online veilingen tot een einde gekomen. Het werd een grandioos succes met een eindstand van liefst € 4.123.880 euro, ofwel € 6641 gemiddeld per duif (621 duiven)! De verkoop zit er nog niet helemaal op: ook de marathonduiven van Gerard Koopman zullen nog verkocht worden. Dit gebeurt van 3 februari tot 12 februari in een online veiling op www.herbots.be. |
Zondag 8 december. Dit weekend was het dan zover, de eerste twee delen van de (vrijwel) totale verkoop van Gerard Koopman vonden plaats als zaalveiling in Hotel Nobis te Asten, Nederland. En Gerard nam afscheid met een knaller! In totaal werden er op zaterdag en zondag 152 duiven verkocht voor liefst € 2.333.880, een gemiddelde dus van € 15.354 per duif.
Gerard staat niet alleen bekend om zijn uitzonderlijke duiven, maar ook om zijn warme persoonlijkheid en betrokkenheid. De veiling was dan ook meer dan een commercieel succes: het was een samenkomst van vrienden, duivencollega's en geïnteresseerden die symbolisch afscheid kwamen nemen van een naam die zoveel voor de duivensport, en soms ook voor hen persoonlijk, heeft betekend.
Gerard Koopman en zijn team werden naar het podium geroepen en na een korte speech van Rik Hermans overhandigde Jo Herbots een mooi kunstwerk namens de families Herbots en Hermans aan Gerard. Na afloop van de veiling op zondag nam Gerard nog even zelf het woord. Hij gaat zeker nog niet helemaal verloren voor de duivensport, want wat erin zit krijg je er niet uit. Hij behoudt enkele oude duiven en een ronde jongen van 2024 voor deelname aan one loft races, om zo te kunnen blijven genieten van zijn geliefde duiven.
Op het moment van schrijven is de verkoop nog niet afgelopen. De delen 3, 4, 5 en 6 van de totale verkoop vinden exclusief online plaats via www.herbots.be en lopen af van 9 tot en met 12 december.
Hartelijk dank aan alle vrienden, bezoekers en bieders, en heel veel succes aan alle kopers! We namen afscheid van Gerard Koopman als actieve profspeler, maar de Koopmanduiven zullen nog vele generaties voortleven.
Gerard, oprechte dank namens de families Herbots en Hermans voor het in ons gestelde vertrouwen en voor alles wat je hebt betekend, en nog altijd betekent, voor de duivensport!

| Friday, 13 December. The auction of Gerard Koopman has come to an end after two days of saleroom auctions and four days of online auctions. It was a resounding success, with a final total of €4,123,880, an average of € 6,641 per pigeon (621 pigeons in total)!

Farewell of Gerard Koopman
Sunday, 8 December. This weekend marked a significant moment: the first two parts of the (almost) total auction of Gerard Koopman’s pigeons took place as a saleroom auction at Hotel Nobis in Asten, the Netherlands. And Gerard said goodbye with a bang! A total of 152 pigeons were sold on Saturday and Sunday for an astounding € 2,333,880, averaging € 15,354 per pigeon.
Gerard is renowned not only for his exceptional pigeons but also for his warm personality and sincerity. The auction was more than just a commercial success; it was a gathering of friends, fellow pigeon fanciers, and enthusiasts who came together to bid farewell to a name that has meant so much to the racing pigeon sport, and to many of us also personally.
Gerard Koopman and his team were called to the stage, where Rik Hermans delivered a brief speech and Jo Herbots presented Gerard with a beautiful piece of art on behalf of the Herbots and Hermans families. After the auction on Sunday, Gerard addressed the audience himself. While he may be stepping back from professional pigeon racing, he wont be leaving the sport entirely: his passion remains unshaken. He will keep a few old birds and a round of youngsters 2024 for participation in one-loft races, allowing him to continue enjoying his beloved pigeons.
At the time of writing, the auction isn’t over yet: the remaining pigeons are being sold exclusively online via www.herbots.be, ending daily from 9 December to 12 December.
