When Ton was just ten years old, he received personal congratulations from brothers Henk and Jaap de Wit of Koudekerk aan den Rijn. The reason was a first prize won by Ton, in which the young fancier beat all the big names in South-Holland. Today, Ton is 74 and has plenty of fond memories to look back on.

He enjoyed great success with his pigeons, but not by spending entire days in the loft. For Ton, work always came first: work, work and more work. His Sunday trousers never wore out. After work, he made time for quality time with his family, but he was equally disciplined when it came to his pigeons.

Through racing and strict selection, he developed his own family of pigeons. At the foundation of today's generations lies a phenomenal stock pair: the “847” (itself champion pigeon of De Kuststrook with 17 prizes from 17 races and twice champion pigeon of Delfland) and its hen “Marjolein”. Direct offspring of this pair have won 25 first prizes, with “Rooney” (1st against 16,000 pigeons) as the standout performer.

This convinced Ton to place ten unraced offspring of the pair in the breeding loft. The result was an explosion of quality pigeons. Ton's national champions of 2026 are all descended from offspring of the “847” x “Marjolein” pairing.

The bloodline also performs exceptionally well in the hands of other fanciers. Clubmates and friends Tijssen-De Best won 1st National Ace Pigeon Sprint NPO 2026. The sire of this National Ace Pigeon is a direct Van Wissen pigeon, bred from the “847” x “Marjolein” pairing.

These are also beautiful pigeons with striking eyes: a magnificent family of naturally gifted champions.
